It’s always heartwarming to see friends and family come together in celebration of a wedding, and this one was no exception! This happy couple chose an intimate setting nestled up in the trees of Prescott. Apple Creek Cottages, where friends and family can stay in their own vintage cottages for the weekend, is a great place to get away from the heat of the valley. And to have a beautiful wedding out in nature.

The day was incredible, trees were just starting to share their new spring buds and the clouds sheltered us from the hot sun – and made a wonderful filter for the photographs! The sun did peek out to shine on them while their vows were shared, but slipped behind the clouds soon after.

As everyone scurried around to prepare, the talented Mr. Kevin Huang provided amazing background music on his violin and classical guitar. Smiles were abundant as the excitement was building. Everyone there knew the sweet love story this couple shared started many years ago when they were young.

You see, they had met at a national chess tournament as kids.

And though Todd tried to keep a connection with Tarina by writing letters, distance and time separated them for years.

Life went on for each of them in different states.

But at just the right time, God strategically brought back together by Facebook.

The innocent childhood crush turned out just to be the beginning of their beautiful love story.

It was a pleasure to help document this special day of theirs, and be able to witness the special bonds they have created over the years with their close friends and family. I think the joy of the day is reflected in the images, and the fun memories can be relived for a lifetime!

Sweet Wedding Photography Tempe

Sweet, small, delightful, and simply beautiful – just a handful of words that run through my mind when I think back to my one of my close friend’s wedding.

What a day to celebrate! What may have seemed like a whirlwind, long distance relationship at first – was really two long-lost friends who reconnected in the last couple years.

A seedling romance budded into a beautiful relationship. . . that led to this memorable backyard wedding!

Some family and a handful of friends gathered in this charming Tempe backyard to celebrate this heartwarming event.

We did not have manicured ceremony grounds and gardens with all the bells and whistles to work with, but the simple beauty of the day gave it a magic that was truly a blessing for everyone who was there to share in it.

Sweet Wedding Photography Tempe

Prior to the ceremony, we had a reveal – when the bride and groom had a quiet moment to see each other for the first time in all of their wedding splendor.

These images are always sweet.

The expressions clearly show all of their excitement.

After the reveal, we snapped all of the portraits of the bridal party and family.

Then we did a small bride/groom session.

Considering it was noon, and a super sunny day – (not ideal for portraits) – we managed to get some lovely images.

Once all of the “formals” were done, the bride and groom were free to enjoy the ceremony and celebration without having to step away again.

And I was free to just roam and capture the moments as they happened!

Gilbert Family Portrait Session

I enjoyed getting to know this wonderful family a little bit while walking around one of my favorite portrait venues – the Riparian Preserve in Gilbert.

Though, the preserve was not at its peak. . . and looking a little shabby, there were still plenty of options for some nice shots. And, compared to prime fall or spring time portraits, there was barely any “waiting for a spot to open” while another photographer is finishing up.

You can tell mom and dad work hard to guide these little guys, because they were a pleasure to work with and so much fun!

Like most siblings, their personalities were completely different.

While the oldest had a bit more of a sweet, reserved front, the younger wasn’t shy in sharing his silliness.

We managed to walk around a good part of the park and used a few different backdrops. The cacti gardens are always beautiful, with its purple prickly pear and saguaro’s.

But, I have to say my favorite backdrop was closer to sunset, with the mountains in the distance.

Thanks again to this sweet family for allowing me to help record this stage of their family’s history!

Tarr Family Portraits Tempe

Last fall, I had the privilege of photographing my brother in law and his beautiful family for their Christmas cards. Since he is also a photographer, and a very good one for that, he and his wife already had been planning exactly what they wanted.

Family Portraits Steampunk Outfits Downtown Tempe

For several months, they had been collecting steampunk attire for the family.

My sister in law spent a lot of time scouring for just the right items and the final costumes were amazing! With this in mind, Jason already had the location picked out and the “look” he wanted.

He shared his plan, and we went to work. We started at the old flour mill in downtown Tempe, taking advantage of the industrial, rusty doors.
